There are few personal accomplishments more rewarding than the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. At 19,340′, the mountain rises abruptly from the surrounding savannah. Its apex offers no better sunrise as the plains below are bathed in golden light—a perfect capstone to this immense challenge.

Our 6-day trek utilizes the lovely Marangu route. From the park gate, we cross bamboo rainforest, alpine heather, and “the Saddle” with its stunning views of Kibo and Mawnzi. An extra day is also built in for acclimatization. On our summit day, we begin the trek by midnight so we have ample time and the best chances of reaching the top.

A team of superb African guides leads us on this non-technical climb. Along the way, they impart their in-depth knowledge of mountaineering, as well as insight into the history and environment of Kilimanjaro.

Explore even more. Our 5-day safari extension is the perfect way to relax after our climb. First we venture into the Ngorongoro Crater, home to a fantastic spectacle of big game. Then it’s onto the world’s most famous wildlife reserve, Serengeti National Park, where we sleep, in true safari style, in walled tents. Last, we visit Lake Manyara National Park, a serene place where a vast alkaline soda lake is home to flocks of pink flamingos and pods of hippo.
